Thank you to the friendly birders at Carpenter Nature Center who alerted me to two golden-crowned kinglets around noon today. I found them right where they had been seen earlier - on the Savannah Trail near the River Overlook. At first, I only saw one, but it was a great view, since it was right by the trail, flitting about on the snow, perhaps catching snow fleas. This kinglet had the brightest yellow-orange crown I have ever seen - it was stunningly beautiful. Then I was surprised by a warbler up in an oak tree, acting like it was still October. I didn't get a good enough view to identify it before it flew on. I walked down the trail and returned to find two kinglets and two warblers in the tops of the oak trees. One of the warblers flew to a cedar tree and ate a berry. This time I got a good look and saw the yellow rump. Directions to the nature center are at their website carpenternaturecenter.org
