Subject: Towhee post

The male Eastern Towhee that has been at my feeders in Ottertail since November has made it to the new year. Unfortunately our CBC was cancelled so he won't get counted. It was good to see him appear this morning regardless. It seems that he spends the night under the deck. At first he associated with a long departed Fox Sparrow, but now is part the usual crowd at the feeders. Over the last week it has been interesting to note a change in feeding habits. Instead of only eating millet from the ground, the towhee has taken to sunflower seeds out of the feeder and rather aggressively defends his space. All in all it has been a good opportunity to watch a most beautiful bird at the wrong time of the year.
