On New Year's Day, two field observers and one feeder watcher family, counted 228 individual birds of 22 species during the Rice Lake NWR Christmas Bird Count.
Several participants could not make it this year due to nasty road conditions. Please join us next year on December 31, 2011 (the Saturday after Christmas). Best sighting of the day: a Barred Owl perched near a feeder watching red squirrels, while a toddler was watching the owl from her front window. Happy New Year!
