Cardinals were first recorded on the 1923 CBC in Red Wing. The CBC started in Minnesota in 1905 but there were only a couple counts per year. St. Paul recorded its 1st CBC Cardinal in 1927 although it was St. Paul Como Park & St. Paul South counts (both deprecated) and not Julian's St. Paul North count. They have been recorded on most counts statewide but are more numerous in recent times and in the South.
