While photographing birds at the feeders at the Minnesota Valley National
Wildlife Refuge headquarters, a Merlin flew in and stopped for a few minutes
on a nearby tree.  Bruce Fall made note that "it appears to be the pale
prairie subspecies, richardsonii, which is scarcer in MN than the taiga
subspecies."
