At 8:30 am I checked our video camera and the owl was not in the box. Yesterday, throughout the day, a number of people got to see the owl sitting at the entry hole of the Wood Duck box. It was a real jack-in-the-box yesterday.
I can't get over the Chickadees, I watched them buzz just inches away from the owl's face. One even hovered right in front of it. At times Blue Jays and N. Cardinals joined in the mob. The owl tried to ignore the activity, keeping it's eyes nearly shut, until it had enough and dropped back into the box. At 4 P.M. the owl sat continuously at the hole until it flew out at 5:15 P.M.. There was enough light that I saw it fly into the Norway Spruce behind the house. I even got some photos. And Anne got home in time to see it! I won't post again until I see the owl.
