Hi,
I froze my hands off birding this afternoon at Pond Dakota Mission Park.
There was a lot of woodpecker action and I had nice looks at a male Hairy
and Yellow-shafted Flickers. But the highlight was two Bald Eagles doing a
display. The eagles hooked talons and then spiraled downward nearly
touching the ground before separating. The full adult (based on plumage)
circled towards me with the 3rd or 4th year adult (did not get to look at
it long enough to properly id this, and am not experienced enough to do
that with great accuracy anyways)close behind. The birds then flew off
behind trees and I lost sight of them. My fingers numb I decided I better
head back.
On my drive back to Eagan I caught a glimpse of a smaller buteo on Hwy 77
and Old Shakopee, too much traffic behind me to stop. Anyone know of buteos
hanging around there?
Good birding though,
Amy
