Red Crossbill, Common Redpolls, Bohemian Waxwing at Ann Lakes/Sand Dunes this morning.

Also enjoyed Rough-legged Hawk & Northern Shrike.

The Sand Dunes area is located just south of Sherburne Refuge, take CR 5 south almost to the second CR 4 (west) exit, but turn left/east rather than right. Travel slightly over a mile to the trail parking lot.

This area has been hot & cold (inconsistent) throughout this winter. Strategically, 7:30-8:30 AM have been best; 10 minutes walk in either trail direction, as well as walking the road farther in, have been most fruitful.

Update on other species that have been seen & heard there the last couple of years: Common Ravens are frequently seen & heard. Townsend's Solitaire is very inconsistent this year. Black-backed Woodpecker has been occasional the last two winters (and may have been a fly away this morning). Northern Goshawk, seen in past years, has not been seen. No WW Crossbills this year either.

Good birding to all!
