I introduced a friend to Sax-Zim yesterday. Glorious weather!
We had a full dawn to dusk adventure that netted wonderful encounters with most of the target species.
Highlights...
3 Boreal Chickadee at Admiral Rd feeders
3 Grey Jay at Arkola Rd feeders
2 N. Shrike
12 Pine Grosbeak at Blue Spruce feeders
1 N. Hawk Owl on McDavitt, must be the habituated individual discussed in earlier posts
1 Black-backed Woodpecker, McDavitt logging road
1 N. Goshawk, imt. flushed from creek edge on Stoney Lake Rd
1 Swan, I assume it was a Trumpeter?, a low-fly-over at dusk. The bird flew in NE direction and was spotted from Arkola Rd about 3 miles west of Owl Ave.

Major corvid parties were being staged at locations throughout the bog. One party, slightly north of the Admiral Rd feeders, was being held in celebration of the recent appearance of a family of deceased beaver. (it looked like the carcasses had been dumped the night before) Many jubilant groups of Raven and Crow were seen along Hwy 7, especially along the RR tracks where rapid snow-melt is "unwrapping" exciting bundles of unfortunate fur/metal collision. The birds were acting like kids on Christmas morning, leaping, yelling, tugging, tossing, chasing and bickering.

We found the blossom heads of Skunk Cabbage, fully formed and ready to open, smelling faintly of skunk.

The Menace of Stickney Ave, was seen pacing his porch.
