Subject: [NEBirds] Plug for Sax-Zim Bog, MN

Hi folks,

Sorry to get off-topic, but this will be of interest to many Nebraska birders.

I just returned from the Winter Birding Festival at the Sax-Zim Bog in
Meadowlands, MN, not far from Duluth. Although only about 9 hours drive from
Lincoln, many of the birds there are never or rarely found here. During the
field trips I found the following (among others):

Great Gray Owl
Northern Hawk Owl
Pine Grosbeak
Black-backed Woodpecker
Gray Jay
Boreal Chickadee
Ruffed Grouse
Common Redpoll
Hoary Redpoll

I missed on the Bohemian Waxwings and Snowy Owl that were found in the area.

The festival is held each year over the Presidents Day weekend. Registration is
due in late January.

It's a great place, not too far from home, but in a different world!
