Duluth

Fond du Lac bridge over the St. Louis River

Locals know that this is THE place to see the earliest spring migrants in
Duluth. Even though almost everything else is frozen, the St. Louis opens up
and the birds show up.

It was a bizarre experience to hear the calls of Bohemian Waxwings mingled with
the song of an American Robin...and small flocks of Evening Grosbeaks and
Redpolls flying over a diving Pied-billed Grebe!

"Spring birds"

1 Pied-billed Grebe
2 American Robins (one singing)
1 Mourning Dove (singing)
2 Trumpeter Swans (unbanded)

"Winter birds"

Evening Grosbeaks (6?)
Bohemian Waxwings (10?)
Common Redpolls (20?)

Also...

5 River Otters!
2 N. Cardinals
Pileated Woodpecker
Common Goldeneyes
