Two inches of snow overnight plus all day long flurries of Lake effect snow today produced more birds in our yard than I have seen in some time. I went out at 6:30 and scrapped off the snow under the feeders and added some cracked corn and filled the sunflower feeders.. Then we watched and counted birds all day. Here is the list with a few additions when we went out and walked along our dirt road.

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - male
Down Woodpecker - 3
Hairy Woodpecker - 2
American Crow - 2
Common Raven - 1
Black-capped Chickadee - 5
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 2
Hermit Thrush - 2 (along road)
American Robin - 5 (plus 80 along road)
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 2
American Tree Sparrow - 9
Fox Sparrow - 44 (plus 20 along road)
Song Spparrow - 1
Dark-eyed Junco - 60 (plus 20 along road)
Purple Finch - 5
Common Redpoll - 9
Pine Siskin - 6
American Goldfinch - 2

Snow is good for bird-watchers but maybe not for birds. We will see what tomorrow brings.
