Migration has slowed in the last few days as the first big wave of
passerines has moved through, and we await another strong push of
migrants soon. Everything as greened up with the warmer temperatures,
and flowers are everywhere. There are several reports of the first
goslings making their appearance.

In Douglas County, Alex Watson reported a NORTHERN PARULA at Lake Carlos
State Park on May 15.

Roland Jordahl in Otter Tail County reported YELLOW WARBLER, INDIGO
BUNTING, and BOBOLINK on May 15. On the 18th, he saw HOUSE WREN, and on
May 19, an ORCHARD ORIOLE visited his yard.

Mike and Mary Davis saw a WESTERN TANAGER on East Shore Drive in Detroit
Lakes , Becker County on May 14, but it has not been seen in recent
days, so it is presumed to have departed. Other species seen there
included SCARLET TANAGER, INDIGO BUNTING, BALTIMORE ORIOLE, and ORCHARD
ORIOLE. Beau Shroyer reported RED-HEADED WOODPECKER and NORTHERN
CARDINAL on May 16.

Mel Bennefeld observed RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD and RED-HEADED
WOODPECKER at the Ponderosa Golf Club in Clay County on May 18. Rick
Holbrook reported nesting AMERICAN KESTRELS a mile north of Downer.

David Thorstad observed two GREAT GRAY OWLS four miles south of Lengby
in northeastern Mahnomen County on May 5. Other species seen there
included two SANDHILL CRANES, and some SCARLET TANAGERS.

Shelley Steva saw an UPLAND SANDPIPER along US 59 in Red Lake County on
May 18.

A LINCOLN'S SPARROW was observed in Thief River Falls , Pennington
County , by Shelley on May 14. Our yard was visited on May 19 by a
COOPER'S HAWK causing a sudden hush in the bird chatter for a few
minutes.

Birds continue to stream into Agassiz NWR in Marshall County. Sightings
reported this week by manager Maggie Anderson included RED-BREASTED
MERGANSER at Farmes Pool , and at headquarters, RUBY-THROATED
HUMMINGBIRD, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, CHIPPING SPARROW, SWAMP SPARROW,
MAGNOLIA WARBLER, CAPE MAY WARBLER, BLACKPOLL, NORTHERN PARULA,
OVENBIRD, and BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER. Other species seen in the
vicinity included COMMON LOON, WESTERN KINGBIRD, EASTERN KINGBIRD, and
BOBOLINK. RUDDY DUCKS have returned and some shorebirds are being seen
in the northwest part of the refuge including DUNLINS and some peeps.

Shelley Steva and I made a trip to Kittson County on May 15 where
sightings included YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, 10 species
of warblers, LARK SPARROW, and RUSTY BLACKBIRD.

Thanks to Alex Watson, Beau Shroyer, David Thorstad, Maggie Anderson,
