Field Trip Report

Our group enjoyed three days of birding in Houston and Fillmore counties.  
Missing most of the storms and only light rain a few times during the trip.  We 
observed most of the regional specialties and lots of the more common species 
of birds.  Here are some of the highlights of the trip:

Bufflehead - late migrant, observed in the marsh in La Crescent.
Least Bittern - Heard at Mound Prairie marsh WMA.
Sandhill Crane - Observed at Mound Prairie marsh WMA and along Highway 26, 
North of Brownsville in Houston County.
Eastern Screech Owl
Barred Owl
Common Nighthawk
Eastern Whip-poor-will
Red-headed Woodpecker
Olive-sided Flycatcher
Acadian Flycatcher - Observed along the main creek trail, in Beaver Creek 
Valley state park.
Veery
Wood Thrush
Blue-winged Warbler
Prothonotary Warbler - observed nesting at Millstone landing along Highway 26, 
in Houston County.
Louisiana Waterthrush - observed along the main creek trail, in Beaver Creek 
Valley state park.
Wilson's Warbler
Clay-colored Sparrow - Fillmore County - Dr. Johan C Hvoslef WMA
Henslow's Sparrow - Fillmore County - Dr. Johan C Hvoslef WMA - One Henslow's 
Sparrow, was observed in field on the North west portion of the WMA.
