Birded the Rapids Lake Unit of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge
this morning, with a small group of friends. The loop trail to the South of
the Headquarters building was open and dry, but the trail to the North of the
Headquarters building is flooded. Making it hard to get to some of the better
areas of the unit, with out at least knee high boots. We heard or saw 52
species of birds, with the following highlights, along the small loop trail and
North Hunter parking lot trails:

Wild Turkey
Chimney Swift
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
(Still have not observed the Red-headed Woodpecker, that has been reported at
the Headquarters feeders this spring)
Alder Flycatcher
Eastern Kingbird
Blue-winged Warbler
Mourning Warbler - Easily observed singing male, appeared to be on territory
along the small loop trail.
Lark Sparrow
Grasshopper Sparrow
Orchard Oriole
