RE: Andrew Birch / Hawking Owl

For what it is worth: In early spring in Big Bend Nat'l Park, I have seen a
Great-horned Owl "hawking" bats. The owl had a nest located on a cliff ledge
with young very close to a bat roost - the owl would fly out and was able to
catch a bat within 50 feet and return. The bird's success rate was close to 65%
on each flight. At least half a dozen bats were caught in a matter of 15
minutes or less.
