A preliminary total of 63 species was found on the Duluth CBC on 
Saturday, December 17th.  Highlights included:

-- the count's first ever Black-legged Kittiwake (at Canal Park)

-- the first Black-billed Magpie since 1972, along the Riley Road (CR 
280) off Jean-Duluth Road (CR 37)

-- Barrow's Goldeneye, Lesser Scaup, Common Loon, Great Black-backed 
Gull, Iceland Gull, Thayer's Gull, and Glaucous Gull at Canal Park

-- two Snowy Owls in the Port Terminal area

-- Varied Thrush on Superior Street near 62nd Avenue East. 

-- Townsend's Solitaire at the 2300 block of 5th Street East. I also 
received a report of a Townsend's Solitaire today on the 4200 block 
of McCulloch Street in the Lakeside neighborhood.

-- Northern Flicker along West Skyline Drive at 6th Avenue West

-- Red-bellied Woodpecker along Wabasha Street in the upper Woodland 
neighborhood

-- two Hoary Redpolls along Allendale Avenue near Fryberger Arena in 
the upper Woodland neighborhood

Misses included Great Horned Owl and Barred Owl, Gray Jay, Boreal 
Chickadee, Golded-crowned Kinglet, Snow Bunting, and Evening 
Grosbeak.
