I'm looking at a Friday day trip, hoping to get away for a bit before a busy weekend. I've never been to Aitkin County, and was considering going up 169 and then going along County Road 18. My other option is to head towards Wabasha and hang out on Reed's Landing. This was my initial plan as I'd like to photograph eagles, and from the sounds of it there are many eagles in the area and good viewing.
Questions for more experienced birders are: 1) If going to Wabasha, is Reed's Landing the best place to hang out with a camera in hopes of finding an Eagle? Or Lawrence Blvd.? (where would you pull out and set up with a tripod and camera or scope for a couple of hours?) and 2) If going to Aitkin County, is driving along 18 my best bet for a couple of hours back and forth? The MOU home page lists 18 is the best place to go there. From my home in Delano it would take about 3 hours to go to Aitkin County and 2 to Wabasha. I'd be happy with either Eagles or hawks or other birds - of course a snowy would make me ecstatic, but just a nice variety would be great. Thanks for the tips! Fr.
