This afternoon, I saw a flock of about 30 mixed lapland longspurs and snow buntings along Neal Ave between 90th and 100th, and a larger mixed flock between 90th and 80th. Also, all along that stretch of Neal Ave were numerous horned larks. Many of the longspurs and larks were singing and all seemed to be busy feeding. They seemed to prefer the fields that were mostly snow-free. As you travel southeast from St. Paul, this is about where the snow cover ends, at least until tomorrow.
