In areas with bright street lights, robins may sing all night long.
Jim is right that they usually wait till 1-2 hours before sunrise.
Some researchers believe that they sing so early so they can get that
over with by first light, so they can take advantage of the first
light to search for earthworms before the rising sun sends the worms
back to their subterranean burrows.

Robins were back singing in Duluth in my neighborhood this weekend.
