I don't know whether anyone else answered Julian's question. Yes, the pelican plunged into the water repeatedly to feed, most of the time coming up with a tasty snack. It would then swim around a while, flex its wings, then take off for another fishing expedition. After 30 minutes or so of feeding it flew to its favorite piling where it slept for a while.
