On Sunday, 4/15, I drove on the west side of Lake Calhoun in Mpls. There
were 3 - 4 dozen horned grebes spread out on the surface of the lake.
There was also a common loon on the lake. This may have been the same
bird previously reported on Lake of the Isles.
There were also 5 pair of lesser scaup in the SW "corner" of the lake near
a flock of 2 dozen coots.
I then drove to Grass Lake in south Mpls.
There were 10 -12 great egrets spread along the shore of the lake
There were 2 great blue herons and on kingfisher
There were several northern shovelers.
There were at least 3 pair of hooded mergansers. I saw one hen fly into
one of several "wood duck" houses that are placed around the lake.
