Hadn't seen this posted here, so thought I'd let everyone know: Ethan and Aaron Gyllenhaal found an Elaenia at Douglas Park in Chicago, IL on Tues. The identity of the bird wasn't realized until late yesterday.
The bird was re-found about an hour ago by Doug Stotz. So far, the exact identity is up in the air, but has been narrowed down to about two species. It is either a White-crested Elaenia (in which case it would be the 2nd ABA record) or it is a Small-billed Elaenia (in which case it would be the first ABA record). In any case, it's a crazy rare vagrant and totally worth chasing if you're into that. ;) The link to one of the many discussions (and the original photos) is here: http://www.ilbirds.com/index.php?topic=50480.30 Good luck if you go! -- Happy Birding! --Chris W, Madison, WI Interpretive Naturalist Mississippi Explorer Cruises http://mississippiexplorer.com/ http://swallowtailedkite.blogspot.com http://www.flickr.com/photos/swallowtailphoto [email protected] ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
