Eight RED-THROATED LOONS were seen on the 9th by Peder Svingen at the Park Point Recreation Area. Peder saw two WESTERN GREBES on the 9th at Gull Bluff near Wisconsin Point, and a first year GLAUCOUS GULL on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry. I also have a second hand report of two PIPING PLOVERS at Wisconsin Point on the 9th. Jan and Larry Kraemer saw a female RUDDY DUCK on the 9th along the Western Waterfront Trail in front of the Spirit Cove development. Cindy Edwardson saw a female BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER on the 10th at Hartley Nature Center in Duluth. Mike Hendrickson saw two very late BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in a flock of CEDAR WAXWINGS on the 10th along Skywood Lane near St. Scholastica in Duluth. Fifteen LONG-TAILED DUCKS were seen on the 10th at Burlington Bay in Two Harbors. A flock of 24 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS flew over downtown Two Harbors on the same day. An EASTERN TOWHEE is still visiting a feeder on the 300 block of 2nd Avenue in Two Harbors. New arrivals in the area during the past week include VIRGINIA RAIL, CHIMNEY SWIFT, RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, RED-EYED VIREO, GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, AMERICAN REDSTART, NORTHERN PARULA, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, YELLOW WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, LINCOLN'S SPARROW, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, and BALTIMORE ORIOLE.
