Those interested in Purple Martins may want to check out the free workshop
on Saturday, May 19 at the Detroit Lakes Festival of Birds at M State
College, 900 Highway 34 East. Daryl Lindstrom Jr with the Purple Martin
Working Group of MN will share how 175 members help manage 30 colonies of
Purple Martins and how the public is vital to the success of this species.
The bird numbers have decreased by 78% over the past 40 years and is almost
completely dependent upon human supplied housing for reproduction.
Lindstrom's presentation is at 12:30 pm, no registration is required. Other
free workshops at 2:00 pm on Uncertain Future of Greater Prairie Chicken and
3:30 pm on Trumpeter Swan Recovery. More on the festival at
