Hi All-- Over the past two weeks I have recaptured more of my banded birds than unbanded ones.
The best: A female Veery banded on June 26, 2008 was recaptured this morning June 18, 2012, thus at least 5 years old. Also today: two male Song Sparrows, one banded April 8, 2010 and the other July 26, 2010. On 11 June 2012, I caught two House Wrens, one banded on August 8, 1011 and the other on June 17, 2011. On the same day (11 June 2012) I recaptured a Gray Catbird originally banded on May 19, 2010. I find it amazing that even small birds find their way back to their original summer ranges. Meanwhile, in blogland, I have posted a review of the latest versions of the Thayer Birding Software's *Birds of North America*. These DVDs are worth taking a look at because they now include many photos of eggs and nests. Many other changes have been made in the software.
