Yesterday I led a trip to Duluth with a group of birders coming from
locally (Duluth) as well as Florida. It was fun to talk about bird
experiences from other parts of the country. We covered the northern half
of the bog, however several roads are impassable. To enter Sax-Zim Bog, the
closest road to the hotspots hotspots is Hwy 133. The 52/Arkola Road
heading west of Hwy 53 becomes flooded. Also, the bridge along Hwy 133
(just a minute east of Meadowlands) was dangerously close to being closed.
The river couldn't have been more than 1-2 inches of clearance between the
river and the underside of the bridge. Please be careful! There is also a
closed section on McDavitt Road, within 1/2 mile north of the McDavitt and
Sax Road intersection. The bog was in overall better condition than I had
expected.

We had great looks at a Black-billed Cuckoo, Purple Finches, re-found the
Dickcissel that I found last week (still just west of the Sax/Hwy7
intersection), heard a Le Conte's Sparrow, and had many other birds. The
day's trip list tallied 16 species of warblers and 74 species all together.
eBird list from the day is below.
