Here are some of the responses I received to my request for help in identifying
a bird I saw in the New Ulm area. I googled society finches and there are
photos of birds that are quite close to the one I saw. Thanks everyone.

Looks like a partial albino male
Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Note the large pink beak.

I think it is a house sparrow. They appear piebald occasionally. Very unique
little bird!

If it's a
native species it must be a partial albino rose-breasted grosbeak. But
the pattern is bizarre, so I think it's some foreign species, an escaped cage
bird no doubt. Maybe someone else recognizes it.

I don't know what it is Pat, but it's not native to around
here! An escaped bird of some sort? It looks like a big finch of some sort

It looks like an escaped cage bird. A Society Finch
(Lonchura striata) is my guess.

My gut feeling is that is an escaped domestic finch, perhaps a juvenile. Google
society finches and look through the images
and you will probably find something similar. They come in a lot of plummages.

My quick guess is a House Sparrow in abnormal plumage.
