Hello:

Like last year I am offering free birding field trips and I am also going to
offer a winter gull workshop.

On November 3-4th 2012 a 2 day field trip to Grand Marais, Minnesota.  I will
meet meet people in Duluth on November 3 early in the morning and we will bird
our way north along Hwy. 61 to Grand Marais. We will stay over night in Grand
Marais and bird our way back on November 4.  I suspect we will end our trip
around 3-4pm on Sunday in Duluth. Limit of birders on this trip will be 15
birders that way there will not be a long car caravan.

On January 19 we will meet early in the morning in Duluth and spend the day in
Sax-Zim Bog, Duluth and other areas looking for winter specialties and possibly
a Boreal Owl!  Limit of birders for this trip will be 15 birders.

All these trips or workshops are for MOU members and non-members.

On January 5th I am going to lead a one day gull trip or workshop.  Many times
I have met birders at some of the local gull spots in the Duluth / Superior
Area who are puzzled or just plain frustrated on how to separate Thayer's Gulls
from Herring Gulls or Iceland Gulls.  Well this workshop / field trip will be
focused on helping you out.  We will spend all our time outdoors looking at
gulls on this workshop.  The gulls we will be focusing on will be Herring Gull,
Ring-billed Gull ( if there are a few over wintering ), Thayer's Gull, Iceland
Gull, Glaucous Gull and Great Black-backed Gull.  I will help birders ID gull
species, age of gulls and other field marks to help you get a greater
understanding of wintering gulls in western Lake Superior. The cost is $25 per
birder.  The limit for this workshop will be 20 birders.  We will meet at 9am
in Duluth and the workshop will end at 4pm.

If you are interested in any of these field trips please reply to me and I will
add your name to the list.  For the workshop there is no need to pay in advance
just reserve a spot by replying to this post. I will send more detail
information to all these field trip offerings to those who sign up.

Yes I know it's 100 degrees plus in your area and its 90 degree plus up here
but I thought a nice cold post about some late fall / winter field trips might
cool you off mentally!

Good Birding!

Mike
