This is to report a 90% sure yellow breasted chat at Sherburne Wildlife Refuge--- location was at the Bergeson Pool sign at the main Nature Drive Road--time was 11:00 a.m.. this Sunday -August 12, 2012. I saw the bird in a bush and had about a ten second look- not familiar with the bird ( only one seen 8 years ago in Mexico). Beautiful rich yellow on the breast and the throat, couple with a gray top of the head ( the birds head was in a position that I couldn't see the face). What struck me besides the color and chest pattern was the size of the bird- similar to a good sized sparrow, and with that color looked bigger. It flew across the road ( passenger side of the one way ) and never came out. My wife and I held vigil for a long time. From what I saw, I am 90% to 97% sure it was a chat but not 100% so no Minnesota life bird. Also seen were blue-winged and black and white warblers.
