Today I went looking for the chat that had been reported. I spent a couple of hours near the Bergson Pool sign at 8am and again at 11am. I heard a few distant sounds which could have been a chat but nothing verifiable materialized. There was a yellow-billed cuckoo and a blue jay in the area making sounds which could have been mistaken for a chat. No chat for me.
I did get 68 bird species in the refuge including: 3 juvenile common gallinules at the Big Blue Stem Pool. A family (?) of 3 broad-winged hawks at Mile 2.5 on the Wildlife Drive. 3 juvenile red-headed woodpeckers (or maybe the same one 3 times in different places?) on the Blue Hill Trail. A screech-owl calling (whinny and tremolo) in the woods at the Woodland Trail. A yellow-bellied flycatcher on the Wildlife Drive (eye ring, wing bars, yellow belly). 10 warbler species including blue-winged, golden-winged, Canada, Nashville, Tennessee. ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
