I was able to spend a large chunk of the day today birding my yard in Cottage Grove, with some help from Larry Sirvio. We had 12 warbler species and a number of other migrants. Based on this, I think the East Metro wooded hotspots have a lot of potential tomorrow--e.g. Lake Elmo, Afton State Park, Carpenter Nature Center, Cottage Grove Ravine Park, Gray Cloud Dunes, etc. Perhaps the west metro will see some action too--Cedar Ave, Minnehaha Creek, etc.
Today's migrants included the following: Common Nighthawk 3 Yellow-bellied Flycatcher 1 Philadelphia Vireo 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch 1 Veery 1 Swainson's Thrush 3 Northern Waterthrush 1 Golden-winged Warbler 2 Black-and-white Warbler 2 Tennessee Warbler 1 Nashville Warbler 1 American Redstart 3 Magnolia Warbler 1 Bay-breasted Warbler 1 Blackburnian Warbler 2 Chestnut-sided Warbler 1 Black-throated Green Warbler 2 Canada Warbler 1 Scarlet Tanager 1 There were also a number of migrating Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Red-eyed Vireos, and Robins. Good luck birding this weekend!
