The Minn Birding Weekend group turned up several birds of note in NW Minn this
weekend, highlighted by a N Mockingbird today at Springsteel Island just N of
Warroad in Roseau Co. The bird was seen by part of the group but was quickly
lost from sight near the W end of the loop road and could not be relocated.

Also unusual in this part of the state was a Red-bellied Woodpecker yesterday
in the Roseau City Park/Campground, but we were unable to find it again today.

Of note as well was an very visible and cooperative Nelson's Sparrow yesterday
on the E side of a small pond along 360th Ave, 3 mi N of Hwy 11 (i.e., 3 mi W
and 3 mi N of Roseau).

Another highlight was the concentration of at least 6 Short-eared Owls (and
probably more) hunting at dusk this evening near the corner of 340th St and
440th Ave: this area is 2 mi E, 3 mi N, and 3 mi E of Roseau.
