Today, in late afternoon, I found a Golden-winged Warbler on the Goodhue side
of Miesville Ravine, along the trail parallel to the Cannon River trail. The
weather was very hot and muggy, with fierce mosquitoes in spite of spray;
plus, the birding was slow, so this warbler was a very pleasant surprise!

As I was leaving the ravine, I also saw a flock of at least 20-30 migrating
Common Nighthawks. They were feeding on thousands of flying insects on the
north side of 280th St. This is a prairie area of the Dakota Cty Parks, and on
the south side of 280th is Goodhue Cty, with large fields of soybeans.
Occasionally a nighthawk would venture to the other side of the road, but
always immediately returned to the prairie in Dakota Cty. I haven't seen
nighthawks for a long time, so this was a neat sighting for me.
