To add to my yard list of migrants for the day, I had a Harris's Sparrow
join the Fox Sparrow, White-throated Sparrows and Juncos in my yard.
A fun day without leaving my yard!

The sad part of the day was when a Pileated Woodpecker flew into a picture
window as I was sitting in my chair on the other side of the glass. It hit
hard and died. I thought it should have seen my shape in the window, but
obviously it didn't. That was my second Pileated window kill of the year,
and I hadn't had one in the 30+ years I have summered here. :-( The DNR
took the first one to donate to either the Bell Museum or some college in
IL. So at least its life is going to help science, I hope.
