Due to habitat changes, Alma has not seen the numbers of Tundra Swans in recent
years as in the past. Most of the migrating swans have shifted further south to
stage near Brownsville, MN and Reno, MN. There is an excellent new viewing
platform at Brownsville.
When I was there Sunday, the swan numbers remained fairly modest, and most
birds were a little further out. They will continue to flow in over the next
few weeks, although some strong southerly winds may impeded the migration.
I do know FWS is holding a viewing event this Saturday at the Brownsville
overlook.

Subject: [mou-net] Tundra Swans

Reading all the reports of birds north of the Twin Cities made me wonder
about activity south. Which brought the tundra swans to mind. Many
years ago,I drove to Alma to see what I could. There were swans there,
but not thousands. My timing wasn't precise. Anyone go when the big
flocks are there? Has it happened this year yet?
