An interesting day at my feeders so far. There was a pileated woodpecker,
which is a rare to occasional guest at my feeders. A first ever red
breasted nuthatch at my feeder. Interestingly, I just put a new type of
bird mix in this feeder yesterday (Fluegel's Ultimate Bird Mix-black and
striped sunflower, cracked corn, safflower, peanut pieces, wheat and soybean
oil ). The nuthatch has been flying from my feeder to the tree line for
about a half hour. But the most unusual was a Cooper's Hawk. There are a
couple inches of standing water on our pool cover and he waded around and
then took a bath, more boisterously than robins do. He was in the water for
about a half hour. I have never seen that before.
