The last two days I been guiding a client from Maryland but the weather has
been dreadful.  On Saturday we headed up to Sax-Zim Bog at dawn to look for
owls and other specialties of the bog but the winds and rain were terrible for
viewing birds.  I did manage to locate a Hoary Redpoll feeding along the Stone
Lake Rd (CR 319) with a Common Redpoll.  Saw several groups of Snow Buntings
and lots of Bald Eagles. We then left the bog and worked our way to Two Harbors
and located some White-winged Crossbills in the park located on 2nd street.
While birding our way down Scenic Highway 61 we found a 2nd cycle Glaucous Gull
flying north along the shore at the Talmadge River.

Today we birded Lake County and Stoney River Road to the Whyte Rd to FR106 back
to Hwy 1.  We found a lot of small groups of White-winged Crossbills and Gray
Jays and one heard only Boreal Chickadee.  The weather was not very good with
strong winds from the west with sleet, rain, mist, fog and snow!  We then
headed back to Sax-Zim Bog where we found a Northern Shrike, Ruffed Grouse,
small flocks of redpolls, gray Jays, Rough-legged Hawks and a Bald Eagles.
Monday will be the last day of our three days together and we are heading up to
Sax-Zim Bog and then stick around Duluth.  The weather looks better for birding
on Monday versus the last two days we had to deal with.
