A late afternoon walk on the east side of Lake Vadnais turned up 5
Golden-crowned Kinglets foraging on or just above ground by the road that
skirts the lake. Along the same road, but a bit further into the evergreens
there was a Hermit Thrush working at the same level. Also present, on the
lake, were 9 Trumpeters, many Ring-necked Ducks, and a few Ruddy Ducks
among the Mallards and Muskrats. Otherwise the birds were the usual
year-round residents.
The appearance of a doe and an 8-point buck were reminders that the area
will be closed for a deer hunt in the few days prior to Thanksgiving.
