I continued my quest to find Pine Grosbeaks and Bohemian Waxwings on
Tuesday.

By the way, in my note I sent on Monday I mentioned I saw a large flock of
birds fly from Braham in Isanti County into Kanabec County but my editor
deleted the name of the species and left "them" undefined. That was the
location where I had my lone flock of Bohemian Waxwings on Monday.

On Tuesday in Staples in Todd County I was checking previously reported
locations of Pine Grosbeaks but was finding mostly stripped crab apple trees
and no birds until I finally got to the last corner of town and located a
group of 8 birds just south of the intersection of Kansas and Long Prairie
Rd. I was out right after daybreak so I may have just missed finding birds
that hadn't started moving around and feeding yet. In Hewitt, in the NW
part of Todd, I found a flock of 20 Bohemian Waxwings on the north side of
town at 5th Ave and Main.

In Otter Tail County I found 10 Pine Grosbeaks in Deer Creek at 4th St and
Merickel in the NW part of town. One showed up later at the more obvious
group of crab apple trees on the south side of town. Further south in
Parkers Prairie there was one Pine Grosbeak calling from the top of a spruce
east of Dayton on Delaware.

I was able to re-find a single Pine Grosbeak in Stearns County at the
location that had been previously reported south of Holdingford. The bird
was at the house on the west side of the road about half way between the two
curves. I didn't see a fire number at that house but it was between 39238
and 39392. There is very little shoulder on the road at this location so be
very careful.
