This afternoon while Gull watching at Black Dog Lake west outflow, Dakota
County I had the unexpected surprise of observing a late American Golden
Plover. I watched the bird forage on the edge the south shore for 30 minutes
before the snow started up. The head being its most prominent feature with the
crown showing a dark cap with a obvious contrasting white supercilium, and a
definite dark auricular spot. It had a short, small slender gray bill tapering
to a pointed tip. The bird was on the move back and forth the short gray legs
would stop quick to peck and dart off again. The primary projection was long
and the wings projected beyond the tail. The upperparts were gray-brown and
were spotted.

Also observed was an adult Thayer's before the star of my day revealed itself.

Black Dog Lake
>From I 35W in Bloomington heading south you exit on Black Dog Road 4B. Black
>Dog Road runs east and west and you are now on the west end of Black Dog Lake
>in Burnsville.
Black Dog Lake is on the south side of the road and the MN. River is on the
north side of the road. It is .4 to Riverfront Park (signed) and there is
parking and you can observe the west outflow.
