Today on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis, Hennepin County there was a Horned Grebe
mixed in with a large flock (76) of Common Mergansers. There was a Common
Loon, (44) Common Goldeneye, (15) Northern Shovelers, Lesser Scaup, Hooded
Merganser, Ring-necked, and a male Bufflehead. Also, there were 3 Trumpeter
Swans, 1 adult and 2 cygnets. All but a small number of COGO were new from the
day before.

On Lake Harriet in Minneapolis after 4 pm there was an adult Lesser
Black-backed Gull, and 2 immature Glaucous Gulls one buffy, one mostly white.
Being the largest Gull on the lake made them easy to spot.

The parkway pullouts around the lakes are now plowed, but getting to the lake
to set up your scope involves walking over deep snowbanks and in deep snow to
get to the lake. The streets are icy and slippery, and the lakes are quickly
icing up due to the temps dropping down into the single digits recently.
