I stepped out on my deck this afternoon to take my dog out to do her business
and a small raptor flew into my yard. As it landed I noticed its pointed
wings so I knew it wasn't a sharp-shinned. I immediately assumed merlin. I
slipped quickly inside to get my binos to confirm and that is what it was, an
adult bird.

This was a new yard bird for me and they are hard to come by. I'm also in the
Bloomington CBC circle, so the merlin will make the count week list.

I also have a power line right-of-way two houses down and have a pair of
red-tailed hawks that have been hanging out together on one of the poles. Kind
of unusual to see a pair hanging so closely together in the winter.
