I spent most of today birding in Winona County with Lorraine Kilmartin
completing a CBC route. We found a lingering song sparrow and handful of
eastern bluebirds. A flock of common redpolls was exciting for us, as they
were Lorraine's first. Within the flock a single pale male caught my eye
being lighter, finer streaking around the flanks, and shorter bill. The
red wash was prominent and I missed the rump in flight however....and I
left that observation as an interesting redpoll.

After completing the CBC route I check along the river and in town,
observing the lingering immature Black-crowned Night Heron in Winona and a
White-winged Scoter moved to the Wabasha county side of Minneiska since
first seeing it earlier this week.
