This morning and throughout the afternoon, I was out guiding my friend Tammy Holmer around the Twin Ports. Gullwatching was our primary focus for the morning. While at Canal Park for the first portion of the day, we were treated to an Iceland (Kumlien's) Gull, 3 Thayer's Gulls, 1 Great Black-backed Gull, 2 Glaucous Gulls, many Herring Gulls, and four Ring-billed Gulls. In addition to the fun gull sightings, we had an adult Peregrine Falcon soar overhead multiple times, and dive through flocks of pigeons. We visited Wisconsin Point in the mid-afternoon, which proved to be very quiet. Upon the evening coming around, we found two Snowy Owls near the Superior Airport. It was a great day to be out birding! I hope to have some gull pictures out in the next day or two.
Today's eBird trip list from Canal Park is below. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S12444406 My first bird species of the year was a White-winged Crossbill. When I went outside this morning, there was a flock of them chattering away in the spruce tops!
