As the snow stopped this morning we had at least 12 male cardinals and their attendant females at the feeders and surrounding trees. What a sight in the fresh new snow! My question is this: Several times a day, the cardinals show up to feed in great numbers; do they travel as a group in the winter, or do they just know the appointed hour to feed at our feeders and meet here? Soon they will start chasing one another, presumably to set up breeding spaces; summertime finds only a few at a time. But for now, I'll enjoy the sight of all that red against the snow!!!
