Went owling tonight with Kevin & Dwight Smith. It was cold, but still.
Most of the locations we checked were noisy with road noise bothersome and
at times interfering with soft responses. We had three or four different
species: Great Horned, Screech, Long-eared (probable) and Saw-whet. We
had several calling Great Horned Owls and one low fly over that I missed.
We had a couple of questionable hoots by Long-eared and a couple of barely
seen flights at the tree tops. We had one or two distant Saw-whets that
responded to our calls. The Screech Owl circled us a couple of times
flying by us mostly unseen, but calling loudly.
