The large flocks of American tree sparrows seen around the refuge the last two
weeks have morphed into dark-eyed juncos.  "Snow" birds!

There's a male sharp-shinned hawk hunting around the HQ feeder today.

Sandhill cranes have been seen and heard on the refuge this week, although we
don't know where they're roosting at night.  The river has re-frozen in most
spots, with the exception of along CR 4 on the south end of the refuge.

A few trumpeter swans and Canada geese are on the refuge, standing around on
the ice...waiting.

Bald eagles continue to repair nests and a couple of pairs are incubating.

Crane Meadows Refuge (Little Falls - Morrison County) staff reported a great
blue heron on the river this week.  It was shivering.
