4/5/13 Minnesota River Valley Audubon ChapterSibley County Birding dayField 
Trip Report Enjoyed a fun, but cold day of birding in Sibley county today.  Our 
group observed 69 species of birds and here are some of the more interesting 
birds and locations where we observed them: Hillard Dehnning WPA - Located 
along CR 12, just South of the intersection of CR 27 and CR 12.8:45 - 9:35 
amSnow Goose - Fly over flock of White and Blue morph Snow Geese.Tundra Swan - 
Fly over flocks of Tundra Swans.Waterfowl - Primarily dabbler's were observed 
in an open pond on the WPA.  With Wood Duck, Gadwall, American Wigeon, 
Blue-winged Teal, Mallard, Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Green-winged 
Teal, Common Merganser and Ruddy Duck's being observed there.Sandhill Crane - 
14 Sandhill Cranes were observed in with the waterfowl at the WPA. We also 
observed the following birds at other locations in the county.  Wild Turkey - 
Observed along CR 6, North of Henderson.Great Egret - One Great Egret was 
observed at the outflow of Washington Lake along Highway 25.Barred Owl - 
Observed along 300th St, about 1/2 mile SW of the town of 
Henderson.Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - Observed in Le Sueur county at the Nye 
nature center along Highway 19.Eastern PhoebeNorthern Shrike - Observed in Le 
Sueur county at the Nye nature center.Winter Wren - Observed at the Rush River 
state Wayside.Ruby-crowned KingletHermit ThrushAmerican Pipit - 3 were observed 
along 200 th Street, about 1 mile East of CR 11.Lapland Longspur - A flock of 
about 100 birds was observed along 401st Ave, about 1 mile North of Highway 
5.Rusty Blackbird - Both the Rusty and Brewer's Blackbird sightings were along 
200th St, East of CR 9.Brewers Blackbird Western Meadowlark Craig
