After the snow storm cleared I did some late evening birding on horseback.

I was thrilled to find a pair of American Bitterns in tall grass next to a
swamp loaded with waterfowl. They offered amazing views! Something that
can be hard for this species!

Also in the same area we saw 6 Merlins! A Merlin is often a hard bird for
me to get each year. I have never seen so many in one area as they sat
towards the tips of the oaks and spruce trees. They appeared to be in
pairs. I was surprised in that they did not seem to mind each other or me
on my horse.

Had a fun sparrow day at the feeder
-Spotted Towhee
-American Tree Sparrow
- Chipping Sparrow
- Field Sparrow FOY
- Fox Sparrow
- Song Sparrow
-Swamp Sparrow FOY
-Junco

With the heavy snow line to our north, I think tomorrow is going to be an
amazing day for birds in our area!
